Lights in Alingsås

It all starts with a practical lighting workshop one week before the event opens for the public. This is when experienced lighting designers from all over the world gather in Alingsås. In advance, each of them has chosen a public place in the city and their mission is to create well lit outdoor environments. They do this together with 60 international students of lighting design and architecture. Throughout the years, they have illuminated everything from parks to ponds, skate arenas to sport halls, cemeteries to churches, houses and yards: a wide variety of typical urban spaces.

The workshop week is an important part of the students’ education since they get to work on a full-scale real project with experienced lighting professionals as their mentors. Student electricians from the local technical collage also take part in the workshop, helping the workshop students with the technical part of the workshop.

The workshop heads during Lights in Alingsås 2012 were:

Arto Heiskanen, Finland

Arto graduated as a lighting designer from Tampere Polytechnic, School of Art and media – BA program in media – Lighting Design in 2003.
